Q: Where did you go for your working holiday and why?

Australia : It was my 1st time working holiday. I want to choose an English speaking country to start with . Many of my friends had been to Australia .I heard about their experience there , and their sharing arouses my interest to go there.

Sweden: This was my 2nd time . I want to choose an non English speaking country. And Sweden have northern lights and it is one of the happiest country in the world  , so this country fascinates me .

Q: What kinds of jobs did you do, and what kinds of courses did you take during your working holiday?

Australia : I worked as charity fundraiser , sushi restaurant waitress and farm factory packing staff.
Job hunting is easy if you speak English.

Sweden : I worked as receptionist in a hostel , housekeeper in big hotels , waitress in Chinese restaurants and event helper as part time . Job hunting is challenging due to fierce competition and long waiting time . That would be easier if you know some locals and not picky about jobs.
My first job , being a housekeeper in a hostel. My colleagues from Indonesia and Serbia.

Q: Tell us one of your most unforgettable memories in your working holiday.

Australia: I met an person that was born with both gender organs(man & woman ). I only saw this in the TV and I cannot believe this happened in front of me . I feel the world is so big and my knowledge is so limited

Sweden : I saw aurora / northern lights with other 9 Hong Kong friends. It was an special moment for us. I had never travel with such an big group and having so much fun . It is not common and I cherish our time together.

9 friends from HongKong traveled together and saw Northern lights. It was a special experience for us.

Q: What is the greatest reward you have got from your working holiday?

Australia : I got to travel around Australia with my fundraising job. It is not a job with great money but they provided the accommodation and transport. I got pocket money from my sales. It was fun talking to the locals and they always invited me for a beer or dinner. I saw kangaroo in the backyard of somebody sometimes. It was a fun job.

Sweden: The Swedish class. I got to know many refugees from middle East and African . Besides,  I started to work as an housekeeper in hotels and hostels . I started to keep my living places clean .

The classmates of my Swedish lessons. They are from all over the world.

Q: Can you give 3 tips for young people who wish to visit the working holiday destination of your choice?

Sweden :
1. Bring at least 15000hkd to come here. Job hunting can takes time .

2. Try to arrive before your Visa date starts. So you can get a personal number. Life is easier with a personal number. Seeing doctor , supermarket membership , job hunting  etc..

3. Remember to bring summer clothes apart from winter clothes. Summer in Stockholm can be 35°

Australia
1. If you have difficulties in job hunting, go for a working hostel. They arrange jobs for guests.

2. Grumtree is a good website to sell things , find house , second hand cars, and job .

3. A  backpack is a better idea for a suitcase. I assume you want to travel around than staying in 1 place. Then the backpack is a good friend.

In Stockholm old Town (Gamla stan ) , there are many stone steps. It is not convenient for traveller using suitcase. So backpack is a better option .

Q: Is there any extra thing you would like to tell us?

Working Holiday= work first , travel after. It is  always a good idea to spend the money on travel before the Australian dollars/Swedish krona  exchange rate  go further down.
